ECONOMY - Estevan Saskatchewan
Current and future economic drivers for Estevan include:
The Bakken Oilfield
Known as the “hottest oil play in North America”, the Bakken oil field is filled with light sweet crude oil. New pump wells are popping up everywhere around Estevan as more light crude oil is being pumped and the enormous size of the reserves beneath the Bakken field is just becoming apparent. Check out the article in the Newsroom section.
The Estevan Coalfield
As oil prices climb ever higher, coal will be the only short-term option for electricity generation. The mines are on Estevan’s doorstep.
Nuclear Power
As time goes on and energy requirements relentlessly rise, Saskatchewan’s rich uranium reserves are reassuring. The obvious place for a new nuclear power station is right next to the existing Estevan power station.
Agriculture
Grain for food or for biofuels is another industry increasing in size and health: the traditional chorus of complaints from Saskatchewan’s farmers has been replaced by a cheerful silence.
